Seats each, or the whole helicopter?

Four seats often cost more than the aircraft they are sitting in. Put in your party size and see what each way costs, per person, at the prices operators are publishing today.

What comparing costs

Seats are sold per person, so what a party pays for them rises with every passenger, while the whole aircraft is one price up to its seat limit — which means every route has a party size at which the aircraft becomes the cheaper buy, and below it the seats are. Where that crossover sits depends on the operator's own two prices, so it differs between operators on the same route and moves when either price changes.

Splitting the cost of a helicopter

What the arithmetic does and does not decide — the rest of it is weight, and weight is a different tool.

Is it cheaper to buy helicopter seats or charter the whole aircraft in Nepal?
For one or two passengers, seats are almost always cheaper, because you pay only for the seats you occupy. For a larger party the whole aircraft usually wins, because its price does not change with the number of people in it. Every operator has its own pair of prices, so the party size at which the aircraft becomes cheaper differs between operators on the same route — this calculator reads both prices and finds the crossover.
What does a helicopter flight in Nepal cost per person?
It depends on the route, the operator and how many of you are flying. The per-person cost of a whole-aircraft booking falls with every passenger added, because one price is being divided more ways, while the per-person cost of seats stays flat. A party of five taking the aircraft therefore pays far less each than a couple doing the same flight privately.
Can a group split the cost of a private helicopter?
Yes, and it is the normal way a group flies. One person books the whole aircraft and the party settles between themselves; the operator invoices once. The per-head figures on this page are that division, rounded up rather than down, so a group collecting the shares always covers the invoice instead of coming up short.
Do children count as passengers on a helicopter in Nepal?
Anybody occupying a seat counts, and weight matters more than age at Himalayan altitudes. An operator's limit is set in kilograms per passenger and against the aircraft's total lift, so a family with young children should give real weights rather than a headcount when they ask for a quote.
Does the whole aircraft cost more if we need two helicopters?
Yes — two aircraft is two whole-aircraft prices, and it is a common outcome for a party of six on a five-seat helicopter. This calculator counts the airframes a party needs and prices all of them, because a figure that quietly priced one would understate the trip by half at the moment somebody is deciding whether they can afford it.

Cost is only half of who flies together. At a Himalayan helipad the aircraft’s lift runs out before its seats do — the payload planner checks whether your party can be lifted at all, and the flight-time calculator gives the distance and the time in the air, and the altitude tool says what the air is like where you are landing. Price moves with season too — which months each route flies is worth checking before you fix dates.
